EMT Refresher

Emergency Medical Technicians or EMTs provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical patients who access the emergency medical system. Through the training at SAGE, you will acquire the basic knowledge and skills needed to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight, and perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. EMTs are also trained to administer certain medications, including some prescribed by patients’ physicians. The Emergency Medical Technician forms a strong a link from the scene to the emergency health care system. Classes are taught in “Non-Traditional” teaching approach as approved by the Virginia Office of EMS.

Once students are certified as EMTs in VA and at the National Registry level, they are responsible for keeping their certification current through Continuing Education (CE). A total of 40 hours is required every three years to maintain EMT certification at the State and two years at the National level. SAGE provides such classes to EMT certification holders.
